Today we practiced the concepts we covered on Friday with the different types of chemical reactions. Students also learned about the differences between exothermic reactions and endothermic reactions.
We have been working diligently in class to learn how to balance chemical equations to fit with the Law of Conservation of Mass. Students begin by counting all of the atoms. Then they use coefficients to change the amounts of atoms on each side. I am posting a video below that explains how to do this similar to how I do it in class. Also, there is a list of equations to practice if you feel you need additional help. Don't scroll down too far until you are ready as the answers are posted below the problems! Today students worked on identifying compounds as either covalent or ionic bonds. We then worked on an activity called "Bond with Classmates" to help them in writing chemical formulas and naming compounds.

AuthorI am an 8th grade Science teacher in Leeds, Alabama. This is my fourth year teaching science. As a teacher, I would love nothing more than to teach my kids to question the world around them and to never stop learning. Archives
