Today we started looking at the history of atomic theory. Above you will find the first HALF of the timeline we created today. We are stopping at Ernest Rutherford to do an activity called "The Undiscovered Country" where students will simulate his experiment by bouncing "alpha particle" marbles off of hidden shapes to discover the shape. Pictures to come on Monday!

Today we started Unit 2: Properties of Matter by doing a card sort that let us derive which things on the list were made of matter. (You can see the answers above!) In addition, students also viewed the following video that helped them grasp the size of these tiny atoms that make up everything. We will continue with an atomic timeline tomorrow!
We will have our first unit test tomorrow on everything from the beginning of the notebook up through dimensional analysis.
We have been working a lot this week with dimensional analysis in class to help us convert from one unit to another easily. We had some really awesome peer teaching experiences in class today and I am so proud of how these kids have tackled this concept. I have held off from posting about this because I didn't want to confuse anyone. Now that I feel like we have a grasp on it, I am including a video below that further explains it if you feel you need more help. We will continue working with it on Tuesday and then do our Unit 1 test on Wednesday of next week. Have a great long weekend! |
AuthorI am an 8th grade Science teacher in Leeds, Alabama. This is my fourth year teaching science. As a teacher, I would love nothing more than to teach my kids to question the world around them and to never stop learning. Archives
