Well today was a bit of a science disaster! We were all set to run science experiments involving fan cars, but unfortunately the fans that were provided by AMSTI were not strong enough to propel the cars! OH NO! My first period worked really hard on building the cars, but unfortunately using them was just out of the question. Instead, we switched to BALLOON ROCKETS! We will finish up this lab tomorrow by creating a graph of speed vs time and drawing conclusions about how a constant unbalanced force affects speed. Don't forget: THERE'S A QUIZ TOMORROW ON THE SPEED TRIANGLE!

Today we learned the wonders of the SPEED TRIANGLE! Using this triangle, the students can solve for ANY variable in the speed formula. We did a few practice problems in the notebook and then had a short 3 question pop quiz. Look forward to a quiz using this triangle sometime next week!
After taking a few notes about speed, we practiced calculating it by measuring the time it took a steel ball to travel a certain distance down the hall. We will continue to look at speed after our test tomorrow and resume with another lab on Friday.
Today we completed magnetism by creating compasses and allowing them to align themselves using Earth's magnetic field. We also finished up by reading some really interesting articles about how the magnetic poles of Earth flip and how animals use magnetism to navigate. We will be moving on to MOTION beginning next week and will have a unit test on pages 20-41 in the science notebook on WEDNESDAY, September 24th. Check out the final notes below!
Today we finished up notes on centripetal force and then took a quiz on pages 20-32 in the science notebook. Students also turned in notebooks so I could check the two labs from last week. Notebooks will be returned tomorrow and grades updated ASAP, but here are the notes they completed before turning them in. We will begin looking at magnetism tomorrow!
We finished up friction today by taking a few notes based on our observations yesterday. Students also received the rubric for the notebook check that will occur on next Tuesday. Also on next Tuesday, September 16th, there will be a quiz on pages 20-32.
