Today was the final build day in class for students. I've attached a few pictures of the designs below. There are some very creative ideas! We will move the Drop Day to Monday because many people are not going to be here on Friday due to the Peter Pan play and other circumstances. Can't wait to test these! We finished up the design portion of our eggsperiment today and even spent a little bit of time constructing our contraptions. Students received all materials they needed from me to complete their design. Some groups have chosen to take the materials home to construct and test tonight. I will update some pictures tomorrow and final designs are completed!
Students will be provided with a rubric tomorrow as they begin to plan a final design and cost analysis of their system. We will build the systems in class so any additional materials they decide to add from the lists below will need to be here by WEDNESDAY! Also, be sure to check out the rules below!
Today we finished up looking at energy conversions and the Law of Conservation of Energy. We also revisited the pre-assessment on page 90 to check and see if our initial thoughts about energy were true. If you missed today's class due to the in-school basketball game, be sure to copy the notes below! I also assigned a Letter to Santa that is due on Tuesday before your quiz! Check out the rubric below!
Today in class we discussed several different types of energy as well as how energy can convert from one type to another. The students played a game where they had to identify the energy conversion present in many of the things we use everyday. I have posted the notes for types of energy below. Energy conversion notes will come tomorrow after we have finished writing them. Also you will find the finished notes on kinetic and potential energy calculations.
Today we started a unit on energy. Last week, the kids explored what they knew about energy with a few different pre-assessments, and today they were able to find out if they were correct! Here are the notes from today. We will continue with calculations for kinetic energy and gravitational potential energy tomorrow.
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break! I wanted to showcase a few of the great Rube Goldberg projects that were presented before the break! The kids really had some great ideas for making a simple task more difficult using simple machines! |
AuthorI am an 8th grade Science teacher in Leeds, Alabama. This is my fourth year teaching science. As a teacher, I would love nothing more than to teach my kids to question the world around them and to never stop learning. Archives
