Today we took a few minutes to discuss Lewis Structures before playing GRUDGEBALL to review for the test tomorrow. Don't forget to study tonight! Pgs 59-78!
Today we discussed three different types of bonding by looking at how electrons behave in the different types of bonds. We also went back to finish the notes on page 65 involving differences between molecules and compounds. We will continue by learning Lewis Dot Structures tomorrow before we play GRUDGEBALL to review for our test on Friday! Don't forget about the test: It will be on pgs 59-78!
Once we finished the intro video, we moved on to color coding a periodic table for reactivity and beginning our new unit. (Don't forget the test coming up on FRIDAY!)
Check out the notes below if you missed them in class. (I will reveal the answer to page 80 at a later time! For right now, use what you know to answer the question!) This week in class was a mixture of periodic table research and working on the project, as well as some time for notes. Below you will find the notes for page 77 in the science notebook. Students will have a test on pages 59-78 in the science notebook next FRIDAY, March 27th. Students will receive page 78 on Monday! (Students who are away on the field trip: Your scrapbook grade will count for this test grade!)
Today students received information pertaining to their newest project. Students will use information from research to create a superhero or villain based on an element of the periodic table. I am attaching not only the project requirements to the bottom of this post, but also included in the file is the rubric I will be using grade the project. We will resume research in class on Monday and begin drawing on Tuesday. This project is worth 100 points!
Here is the atomic structure concept map! We also reviewed an old test in class and played a game to review for our 9 weeks final!
Yesterday we started working with the periodic table by coloring the metals, nonmetals, and metalloids that can be found on the table. Students then worked with a candy lab where they used proton Skittles, neutron M&Ms, and electron Nerds to help them learn to how to use the table and how atoms are arranged. Today we took a few notes on metals, nonmetals, metalloids, and isotopes. Students were also given a concept map to fill out. (I'll post this tomorrow with the answers) Don't forget we have a SCIENCE TEST coming up on Thursday. We will review in class tomorrow after we go over answers for the last test.
