Although we have been working on the RISC strategy for answering open ended questions for testing next week, please be aware that we will still have our science test on pages 89-105 TOMORROW!

With this blog I hope to chronicle what we are doing in class to keep you up to date on our discoveries!
I handed out an extra credit project earlier this week involving growing rock candy crystals. I am attaching this sheet below. Although we have been working on the RISC strategy for answering open ended questions for testing next week, please be aware that we will still have our science test on pages 89-105 TOMORROW!

As we continue to learn about solutions, we have now started delving into concentrations and solubility. We did a cool experiment to help us understand. We are growing salt crystals by making supersaturated solution of magnesium sulfate (Epsom salt) and water! Check out our crystal growth so far below. Only one class has started growing crystals, but we are going to leave them over the weekend to see what happens!
Here are some pictures of our experiments with cabbage juice as an indicator and some common household chemicals! Yesterday we started this new unit by learning about different properties of acids and bases and creating a Venn Diagram. Today we did Part 1 of our two part lab "Acid and Base Tie Dye". Check the pictures below to see how we dyed cloth with red cabbage juice. The cabbage cloth will act as an indicator for acids and bases tomorrow as we continue the lab. Although it was a truly SMELLY day, it will be worth it tomorrow!
Today we finished up Chapter 14 by discussing chemical energy and how to influence the rate of reaction. Students received their study guides today (it is attached below if you lost yours) and the test will be MONDAY, April 14th!

AuthorI am an 8th grade Science teacher in Leeds, Alabama. This is my fourth year teaching science. As a teacher, I would love nothing more than to teach my kids to question the world around them and to never stop learning. Archives
