Yesterday we completed a lab with indicators to help us identify different household acids and bases. Today we went outside to experience an acid/base reaction

We are pushing off our acid/base lab until tomorrow because I am hoping that I will somehow find my voice before then! Today we worked on learning about acids, bases, and pH using some graphic organizers and reading material. When I was absent Monday, I assigned a reading section for students to complete. Many students did not use their time wisely and therefore did not finish. We will be taking a quiz on this information next Thursday. Therefore, I am posting the article below. It is the responsibility of students who did not finish to finish on their own time. Students who do not have internet access at home may make an appointment to come during 4th period to finish. Be sure that you complete ALL 21 questions related to this reading assignment as this information is strongly tied to what we will study next week. Today students worked together to find the density of a number of irregular objects. Rather than measure each object, students had to determine the difference the object made in the volume of water in a graduated cylinder. We will continue working with this concept today!
Today students compared similar sized cubes that contained different materials, like pasta, rice, and sand. We worked together to derive the formula for density and students were able to determine which box had the greatest density after taking measurements. We will continue this lab tomorrow (and part of Thursday) as we include new items and learn how to find the volume of an irregular solid.
