This experiment was a great way to start off our unit on Properties of Matter. After our conclusions from the lab, we discussed the two properties that all matter have in common: mass and volume. Discussing volume is something we have not yet done in this class, so we added a new graphic into our science notebook to help us remember how to measure different types of volume. Look for homework related to this infographic next week!

Today we started learning about properties of matter with a quick mystery lab. Students were asked to make observations about an item in a sealed paper bag. Students could not open the bag, but they could touch, smell, shake, and listen to the object within. Students were then asked to draw a conclusion about the object's identity based on what they had observed and analyze how their observations led to that conclusion.
